Matt Douglas is CEO and founder of Venture West Funding. Mr. Douglas’ primary responsibilities include managing and building the firm’s key relationships with its extensive network of lenders as well as driving the strategic vision of the company. Mr. Douglas is a hands-on leader and actively mentors the firm’s team of skilled loan professionals in two offices.
Mr. Douglas has over 30 years of experience in real estate financing. Throughout his career, he has developed long-term relationships with many lenders including banks, agency, CMBS and life companies. He is also responsible for seeking new capital sources for the company. Mr. Douglas has developed multigenerational relationships with many of Southern California’s most active real estate investors and owners. During his career, Mr. Douglas and his team have arranged over $3.5 billion of financing for multifamily, commercial, and residential property loans. His expertise and solid reputation in real estate finance are the driving forces behind the firm’s success and longevity in this industry.
Mr. Douglas began his career at California Federal Bank in 1986 where he managed high-end clients and originated large commercial, industrial, and multi-family loans. He later moved to single-family construction lending and was promoted to Construction Loan Manager for Cal Fed, serving as the bank's top producer for four consecutive years.
Mr. Douglas is a Licensed California Real Estate Broker and NMLS approved. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona with a double major in finance and real estate. He is happily married with 3 children.
Don SimkinsSenior Vice President
Don brings more than 28 years experience in real estate financing, advisory and portfolio management to the team. After completing an internship with Cambridge Capital Group (FNMA/GSE, CMBA division of Columbia Savings), Don was hired full-time under the CEO to learn each major company function including servicing, REO management, secondary marketing, underwriting and origination. Following a lengthy tenure with CCG, Don helped build several recognized commercial lending brokerages in Southern California until joining Venture West Funding in 1998.
During his career, Don has invested in numerous multifamily and commercial real estate ventures. He currently oversees management and operations of those projects located in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego Counties. Don’s experience makes him expertly positioned to advise on many facets of the income property business. Advisory in the area of debt placement, acquisition analysis, development, management, reposition and disposition of almost any size transaction are what clients rely on from Don and his VWF team.
Don graduated from the school of business at California State University at Fullerton. Shortly after, Don continued his education at UC Irvine’s program in Advanced Real Estate Finance. Don holds a real estate license with the California DRE and is NMLS approved. Don is a native of Southern California and is married with three children.
